Arizona announces signing of Spanish guard Conrad Martinez

Spanish guard Conrad Martinez recently announced that he'd be leaving his Joventut Badalona club team but never mentioned where he'd be headed next. Plenty of reports indicated that Arizona would be his destination, and Wednesday he finally broke his silence by announcing his commitment to the Wildcats.

Shortly after the 6-foot prospect made his Instagram announcement, Arizona went public with his signing making him the newest member of the Wildcats' 2023 recruiting class.

“We are excited to welcome Conrad to the Arizona Basketball family,” UA head coach Tommy Lloyd said in a statement provided by the program. “Plain and simple, Conrad is a winner. He has impacted winning with every team he’s been part of. His best days as a basketball player are definitely ahead of him and we look forward to helping him take those next steps.”

Martinez is the second international prospect to sign with Arizona this spring joining Lithuanian center Motiejus Krivas, who announced his move the United States earlier this month.

The Wildcats are also reportedly in line to receive a commitment from Lithuanian forward Paulius Murauskas as well as part of the 2023 class alongside incoming freshman wing KJ Lewis.

Lloyd has overhauled Arizona's roster once again this offseason, and he has again leaned on international recruiting to help fill in gaps heading into the fall. UA has added several key transfers as well including standout guards Caleb Love (North Carolina) and Jaden Bradley (Alabama) and San Diego State transfer power forward Keshad Johnson.

There could still be roster movement before the start of preseason workouts with the potential addition of Murauskas. In addition, junior starting power forward Azuolas Tubelis has until the end of the day Wednesday to decide whether or not he will return to the Wildcats. Up until this point his return has not been expected.

For now, the Wildcats sit at 13 scholarship players on the roster for the upcoming season.
