After Hall of Fame former Arizona head coach Lute Olson died this summer current Wildcats head coach Sean Miller revealed that the team would wear a patch on their uniforms this season to remember the legendary UA coach.

Wednesday the program revealed the patch that will be worn on the left side of the Wildcats' jerseys this season. It will be a black circle with the word "LUTE" written in all caps.

“Our 2020-21 team will wear this patch honoring Coach Olson with a great sense of responsibility,” Miller said in a statement provided by the program. "Coach Olson’s leadership led the program to unprecedented excellence, both on and off the court. That success united the Southern Arizona community, Wildcat fans and Alumni with our great university in so many wonderful ways. Coach O also created a basketball family filled with generations of great players, coaches and teams that remains strong today.

"We hope that our 2020-21 team can continue to bring joy and pride to all those that support us. We will play every game to WIN, but we also aspire to play an unselfish and hardworking style of basketball that Coach Olson would appreciate. We look forward to the challenge of representing Coach O’s Legacy.”

Miller hinted this fall that a throwback uniform of some kind could be something the Wildcats also use to remember Olson and the program's past in the coming years.

The Wildcats are set to begin the 2020-21 season Friday afternoon as they welcome Grambling State to McKale Center.
