For the first time during Arizona's spring practice, the energy level felt a little lower than the first five days. Now, times like that will happen throughout spring practice as guys are doing similar drills, and coach Jedd Fisch and his staff are evaluating the talent.

Players in certain positions had a great day, and the defense under new defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen looks like it has caught up with the offense and is starting to make plays in the secondary.

One player on defense that has been a standout for the second unit is third-year safety Isaiah Mays. During spring practice, Mays has played tight coverage and has been able to snag a couple of interceptions and a few batted balls.

With Mays showing improvement, that will help Nansen with depth in the secondary that, despite being ranked in the top-20 nationally in passing yards last season, had some issues against passing team like Washington State and USC.
