Future Cats named McDonalds All-Americans

The rosters for this year's McDonald's All-American Game were announced Thursday afternoon and a couple of future Wildcats will be taking part in the event when the two teams of 12 players square off March 28 at Chicago's United Center.
Brandon Ashley and Grant Jerrett, who are both ranked in the top third of the Rivals150, were named to the roster and will take part in the game to cap off their high school careers.

The two Arizona signees will join a group of players that also features Shabazz Muhammad, Alex Poythress, and Isaiah Austin.
Ashley is the highest rated UA recruit for the 2012 class as a five-star prospect and the No. 13 player overall. The versatile forward is part of a Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep squad that has gone 22-1 this season.
Jerrett has helped lead his team from La Verne (Calif.) Lutheran to an 18-6 record this year. The four-star prospect has had plenty of dominant games this year for the Trojans.
Ashley and Jerrett's selections to the game is not something that is surprising as UA head coach Sean Miller expressed that he believed two future Wildcats would make the roster.
"I expect to have two guys, and I don't believe that Kaleb (Tarczewski) is eligible because he was re-classified at one point in his career," Miller said. "Optimistic, hopefully that they'll make it."
Tarczewski, the nation's top-ranked center is not eligible to play, but he was named a nominee for the honor in January as was the fourth member of the Wildcats' 2012 recruiting class Gabe York.
Even though two of the four members of the 2012 classes were selected, Miller said that the honor isn't necessarily indicative of what the future holds for players at the next level.
"I'll say this, though: The starting line in college doesn't take into consideration whether you were a McDonald's All-American or not," Miller said. "I've got a great example in Colorado in Spencer Dinwiddie. When you look at his performance at Colorado as a freshman and what he does at the college level, no one's checking back to see where he was as a high school senior. It's just a brand new beginning.
"Now it's, I think, reflective of how talented these kids are before they get to your school. But, no question, you judge them by the standards of college once they get here."
