Five-star Liddell breaks down top contenders

Gerald Liddell, known as one of the top prospects in America for the past few years, is beginning to settle into his college recruitment.

A 6-foot-7 small forward who sports a throwback game, Liddell showed off toughness and explosiveness around the basket and rebounding skills within traffic in an efficient first session with RM5 Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit.

He broke down some of the programs most involved in his recruitment.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Arizona: “They always make it deep in the tournament. I like how Sean Miller does the one-and-done thing, really gets his guys in and out, and he is a great coach with a great resume. I love that about Arizona.

“I definitely want to be a one-and-done, but if I don’t I want to develop and become the best player I can be, which makes Arizona a good fit.”

UCLA: “They get real deep in the NCAA Tournament and coach (Steve) Alford is doing his thing: Putting in a lot of work with his guys. You can tell that from the beginning of the season to the end of the season, just how good his players get.”

Baylor: “I just have been to Baylor ever since the eighth grade. I have built a great relationship with the coaching staff and the team. It is really good when you can talk to the team and see what is happening.”

Notre Dame: “Academics are always big with my family; my mom has always pushed that with getting my grades straight before basketball and there is always an end to the game so you have to rely on your grades and academics after that.

“I like their style of play and how they like to slow it down. They are definitely on the come up.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Despite having enjoyed a high-major recruitment since stepping onto a high school floor, Liddell is in no rush to make his college commitment.

“I don’t have any visits set right now,” he said. “I am just playing it all by ear right now. I would like to sign early in November.”

RIVALS' REACTION

Liddell has a college-ready game and has already gone through the gauntlet that makes one believe that he should leave an immediate mark on the college game next year. When it comes time to pick a school, look for Baylor and Arizona to be in the best spot for his signature during the early signing period in November.
