In 2012, a good spring and an impressive fall camp gave Jackson a good amount of playing time, even with Arizona's impressive scholarship receivers.
"Johnny is a very hard working kid, a tough kid. He tries to do what you ask him to do. So he's a pleasure to coach," said Tony Dews, the UA receivers coach.
Partly because of injury, Jackson had an up and down year with positive flashes. In the overtime loss at Stanford, he had 75 receiving yards on a career-high 10 receptions. Against USC, Jackson tallied the first touchdown of his college career.
He finished the year with 25 catches - fifth-most on the team - for 187 yards and a touchdown in 11 games.
With the success of the season, Jackson has carried that into spring camp.
"Johnny's done a really good job through the fall, and then this spring he's really getting a chance to play a little more with the first group of [starters]. So he's really progressed well," Dews said.
UA head coach Rich Rodriguez has said in the past that a scholarship is in the conversation for the next academic year for Jackson.
