Beresford close to making a decision

A two-sport athlete who was playing quarterback earlier in his career and now three-star prospect Cade Beresford is likely going to find himself holding down an offensive tackle spot for a Pac-12 program. The Woodinville, Washington standout checks in at 6-foot-7 and before he made the move to his current position he was the one making the calls rather than blocking for the signal caller.

Back then he was around 215 pounds, but in his own words he didn't quite have the athleticism or speed to continue playing quarterback. So armed with a desire to deliver hits and optimism for a fresh start at a new position he made the move and now heading into his senior season he has a chance to play college football for various Power Five schools.

Beresford is now over 250 pounds and continuing to add weight but while he didn't think he was athletic enough to play the quarterback position his athleticism as an offensive lineman stands out to college coaches. It is one reason schools such as Arizona, Arizona State, Washington State and Nebraska have taken notice. They know it is going to take some time to get him ready to play the college game, but they like the upside.

"I know coach M (Jim Michalczik), the o-line coach at Arizona, he's been saying that I'm kind of a raw player and newer to my position but they really like that," he said. "They like that I'm athletic and pretty quick. What I need to work on is my strength, because at that next level I really have to start getting my strength up and be prepared for what's going to come ahead.

"That will come right when I get to college and I'll get on the right nutrition plan for whatever college I go to - it could be Arizona. So, I'm just working on that and then my footwork that's something I'm working on a lot right now outside of weights and running. They really want to see that improved by the season along with run blocking and pass blocking, so I'm really working on that."

Picking a college could come very soon as Beresford plans on making one more local trip this weekend and then coming to a decision after that. An offer from Washington while he visits the campus this weekend would change things in his recruitment but for now he is starting to focus in on the school he wants to attend and it isn't expected to take long for that decision to come through.

"Right now I have three Pac-12 offers – Arizona, Arizona State and then WSU – and then a Big Ten offer from Nebraska," Beresford said. "And I kind of think with my level of play I think I'd be more of a Pac-12 player, personally. My top three right now are probably Arizona, Arizona State and Wazzu. I'm really thinking hard about it right now and I think a commitment will come in the next week or so.

"I really want to talk it over with my family and I'm also going to go to U-Dub on this weekend on the 15th to go check that out and do their camp. And I know Boise State has been in contact too from the Mountain West. So there's some schools I'm narrowing it down to and I want to check out U-Dub again and see what comes there and then I'll probably narrow it down to a final decision next week."
