Arizona signee Rayshon Luke named All-American Bowl MVP with two TDs

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Sandwiched around his official announcement Saturday that he had signed with Arizona, Rayshon "Speedy" Luke put on a show at the All-American Bowl with two touchdowns to earn MVP honors for the game.

Luke, an all-purpose back from St. John Bosco HS in Bellflower, Calif., said it was a dream come true to play in the prestigious showcase and in front of a national television audience on NBC, and indeed he seized his moment.

"It means a lot. This is a dream come true. You don't wake up and this happens -- this is very, very unbelievable. I can't even describe how I feel about my trophy. I've been working my butt off since I was 7, and now look, it's paying off and it's going to keep paying off," Luke told GOAZCATS.com on the field afterward.

"All glory to God. Keep God first, don't ever doubt God, because without God I wouldn't even be around, I wouldn't be here. I'd be a regular kid, and I'm glad I'm not -- I'm glad I'm something special in this world and I can make an impact on these young kids' lives."

Luke's first touchdown came on a screen pass he took for 23-yards down the sideline to put the West team up by two touchdowns late in the first quarter.

"The first one, it was a screen play, we've been dialing that up the whole week ... and I've just always been telling myself this whole week, 'I'm going to score, I'm going to score, I feel it, I feel it.' And look what happened," he said.

Luke then made his Arizona announced during the second quarter and came back to add a 64-yard touchdown to put the West up 21-7 late in the first half. This time, he found a wide-open hole, turned on the jets and never looked back.

"I love those long runs. When we played Servite back in Cali, Bosco vs. Servite, I had a couple long runs like that too and those turn me up. That's what it's about. I love those long runs because that's what we're here -- I'm showcasing the speed," Luke said.

The three-star prospect proved he belonged among the top players in the country Saturday, and he's one of many intriguing Southern California standouts that Arizona has landed in this recruiting class.

As for what sold Luke on the Wildcats, he kept it simple:

"Family, family-oriented. That's always going to stick with me," he said. "... As soon as I set foot on campus it just hit me. You know when it's right, a person will know when it's right, and it was right for me."

So what's his message for Arizona fans about the rebuild Jedd Fisch is trying to lead for the program?

"Just wait and watch. ... Like I said earlier, it's personal," Luke said.
