Arizona and Rich Rodriguez earned one of the top prospects in the country Thursday when five-star cornerback Jalen Tabor made the decision to join the Wildcats' 2014 class at the Under Armour All-American game in Orlando. Tabor will join his Friendship Academy (Washington, D.C.) teammate Jonathan Haden in Tucson next semester as both are early enrollees.
"When I went on my visit it was just a lot of family atmosphere-type stuff," Tabor, who has become known for his Superman tattoo, said on the UA game broadcast. "They play for each other down there, and I feel like I can be a spark."
Tabor gives Rodriguez his first five-star commit at UA. The 'Cats became a real player for Tabor's commitment after he took a visit out to Tucson during the season.
"It definitely exceeded my expectations," he told GOAZCATS.com back after his visit. "I definitely got to see the program and the atmosphere as a whole. I just loved being in the state of Arizona, and especially in Tucson and the university. I got to see a lot."
Arizona's current players and staff played a big part in Tabor's decision as he always had positive things to say about the people at UA.
"It was definitely a family a family atmosphere," he said. "From the AD, to coach (Tony) Dews, to coach (David) Lockwood, and coach Rodriguez - it was definitely a family atmosphere. They treated me like I was one of their own sons when I was down there.
"And so did the players. The players treated me like I was one of their brothers. ... They knew I was away from home and a lot of the players stepped up. It was just a family atmosphere."
Tabor is currently rated as the 24th-best prospect in the country by Rivals.com in the 2014 class as well as the fourth-best cornerback recruit in the group. He chose Arizona over offers from Alabama, Maryland, Florida, Auburn, and many others.
