Arizona's defensive staff installed quite a bit over the course of the spring, and the group was up for the challenge. The Wildcats' defense was the more consistent group over 15 practices and heads into the rest of the offseason on a positive note. There will be more help arriving this summer as key transfers and newcomers make their arrival in Tucson.

However, some of those players will simply be stop gaps in the form of graduate transfers that will eventually have to be replaced in short order. There are still depth issues at several positions across the board, and that is where recruiting will come into play for defensive coordinator Don Brown as he builds up his side of the ball.

We already examined the offensive positions of need for UA, so now we will take a look at the defensive side and pick out some of the most immediate needs for the Wildcats and some prospects to watch at those spots.

Linebacker

Arizona is not in a dire spot when it comes to linebackers, but there is certainly a need for players at the various linebacker spots moving forward. The Wildcats could very well end up with three senior starters when all is said and done with graduate transfers Treshaun Hayward and Jerry Roberts coming in this summer to play alongside senior Anthony Pandy.

The Wildcats do have some incoming freshmen linebackers with Mojo Weerts, Jackson Bailey and DJ Fryar arriving this summer as well to go along with a young group of players at the position highlighted by DJ Mourning.

The linebacker position is an important one in Brown's scheme, though, and it never hurts to have that spot as a strength on the defensive side of the ball. Arizona has prioritized some high-level prospects at the position already with a commitment from Scottsdale-Saguaro recruit Tristan Monday.
