Arizona has added the final coach to its staff this offseason as the Wildcats have hired Ohio State quality control coach Brian Knorr to the staff as the special teams coach. Rich Rodriguez has been searching for the final piece to his staff after Charlie Ragle decided to go to Cal to be the tight ends and special teams coach for the Bears. Arizona has continued to shift the way its staff looks and rather than splitting the two positions Rodriguez decided rather to give running backs coach Calvin Magee the tight ends as well with the idea to hire a coach who would strictly coach special teams.

Knorr officially became that guy Sunday after the Wildcats had him on campus last week for an interview. On that same day, Wednesday, Rodriguez said he was moving along quickly in the process and it wouldn't be much longer before a hire was made.

Knorr comes to UA from Ohio State where he was a quality control coach for the Buckeyes focused on kicking. He was with the Buckeyes for the 2016 season, but prior to that he spent two seasons as Indiana's defensive coordinator. He also had a stint as the head coach at Ohio University with other stops at Wake Forest and his alma mater Air Force.

The 53-year-old coach was a quarterback but has extensive knowledge of the defensive side of the ball working with linebackers and defensive ends going back to 2011 at Wake Forest.

Arizona's special teams was an issue a season ago and that meant putting a ton on the team's do-everything specialist Josh Pollack who ended up handling nearly every duty with the unit from place kicking to punts and kickoffs. It was something the staff hoped to avoid, but it impacted quite a bit.

"We probably didn't manage it as well, and he probably got a little tired because he was doing punting and kicking and kickoffs," Rodriguez said of Pollack. "We've got to manage that well whenever I finish hiring a special teams coordinator. That will be a point of emphasis."

Arizona had three positions to fill and all three that Rodriguez brought in have experience as coordinators at various levels. Knorr joins new receivers coach Theoron Aych and linebackers coach Scott Boone in rounding out UA's staff.
