With Arizona (4-3, 2-2 Pac-12) possibly taking on Oregon State (6-1, 3-1) for the final time with the Wildcats leaving the Pac-12 next year, GOAZCATS.com will take you through the most memorable moments in the two program’s 41-game series.
Arizona's most memorable win (Sept. 26, 2009)
Coming into Corvallis after suffering its first loss of the season at then-undefeated Iowa, Arizona was on a mission to get back in the winning column.
After trading punches it was the Beavers that took a field goal lead at the end of the first half. However, the Wildcats came out of the second half with hunger, striking with a 1-yard quarterback rushing touchdown by UA quarterback Nick Foles, followed by 4 play, 80-yard drive that was capped off with Foles finding receiver Juron Criner for a 3-yard touchdown put Arizona up by two possessions.
OSU fought back behind a rushing touchdown by Jacquizz Rodgers and OSU quarterback Sean Canfield hitting receiver Aaron Nichols for a touchdown to cut the UA lead to 3 points.
The Beavers were able to get the ball back down only possession but was sacked for a safety by Arizona linebacker Earl Mitchell. Mitchell then wreaked havoc on OSU again sacking Canfield with only 31 seconds left, with defensive lineman Ricky Elmore sealing the victory 37-32 with the game-winning sack.
The Wildcats were led by Foles, who threw for 254 yards and three touchdowns in the win.
Arizona would go onto win half of its remaining games, including being shut out 33-0 by Nebraska in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl.
Oregon State's most memorable win (Nov. 22, 2008)
Hosting No. 21 Oregon State, Arizona looked poised in completing in an upset late in the season.
Up by a touchdown at home with five and a half minutes remaining in regulation, Arizona looked confident in getting back into the winning column after falling short at Oregon the week prior. However, that sustained momentum was not in cards for the UA as OSU, led by Canfield, who anchored a 10-play, 80 yard drive to only trail by one.
Missing the extra point to tie the game, OSU kicker Justin Kahut eventually became the hero when OSU got the ball back with 1:19 left and kicked a 24-yard chip shot to win the contest 19-17 and escape from being upset.
Arizona was led by running back Keola Antolin who logged 114 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Despite the loss, Arizona would go on to win the last two games of the season against in-state rival Arizona State and BYU.
