Sometimes it takes multiple visits to a campus for a recruit to decide a college is for him. Other times it just takes the coaching staff and some friends to make it happen. La Mesa (Calif.) Helix safety recruit Scottie Young is of the latter group. The three-star prospect and one of the top 2017 safeties out west decided to end his recruitment Wednesday evening after camping with the Wildcats earlier in the day.

Young did so without ever seeing Tucson, but with help from his family and a desire to try something different and experience something new he ultimately came to the conclusion that Arizona is where he wanted to spend his college career.

The versatile safety prospect eventually came down to his hometown San Diego State program and the Wildcats with a family discussion leading him to pick UA due in large part to his relationship with cornerbacks coach Donté Williams that goes back to his San Jose State days.

"Going into high school I had a list of five colleges I would like to go to if I ever had the chance," he said. "Arizona was always one of them. So that was like a good thing, and in my heart and my head that's where I know I want to play. I think it's going to be perfect. They play with five DBs, so that's always good.

"I love coach Donté and I have friends who are going there. Everything about it is going uphill."

There was no specific plan to get his decision done this early in the process, but after camping with the Wildcats at a satellite camp in San Diego on Wednesday a discussion with his dad led him down a path ending in Tucson.

"I wanted to kind of wait it out," he said. "Then I started to weigh my options and I broke things down to two schools. It was Arizona and San Diego State. I got to know both coaching staffs and I got to know everybody. Then I got talking with coach Donté and coach Tony White from San Diego State I really got the feel of what I wanted to do. I started thinking about it and last night I had a long talk with my dad and he asked me what I wanted to do.

"I told him Arizona is the place and Arizona is where I want to go."

Young said he has been paying close attention to Arizona's momentum that it is building on the recruiting trail and now that he is committed he will turn his attention to helping land even more prospects - including one of his B2G 7-on-7 teammates.

"I'm going to be a big recruiter," he said. "I've got two guys in mind that I really want to come to Arizona with us, so I'm going to try and get those guys - Joseph Lewis and Elijah Blades. Those are two guys we really want to go to Arizona with us, so we're going to try and get those guys."
