Wallace ends recruitment with Arizona pledge on in-home visit

Arizona picked up a commitment from another safety recruit coming off its big visit weekend. Monday night Marrero (La.) John Ehret standout safety prospect Jarrius Wallace picked the Wildcats during an in-home visit with Rich Rodriguez and four other members of the coaching staff. Wallace visited Arizona over the weekend and the trip left a good impression, but Arizona wanted to secure a commitment from him and went in-home to get it done.

“What really went into the decision is me making sure that I wanted to go there,” Wallace said. “I wanted to make sure the education was taken serious, and to make sure that was something that I will be able to accomplish while I’m there. ... They were pushing hard. I like their staff and they made me feel comfortable.”

Wallace chose the Wildcats over Colorado on Monday night and after visiting both schools it was a tough decision for the 6-foot-1 prospect to have to choose between two programs he very much liked.

“It was a very tough decision for me,” he said. “It was the hardest decision of my life. I’m happy to get relief and choose somewhere that I want to go and where I’ll be happy at.”

Arizona has continued to look hard at The Boot for recruits with a number of prospects from Louisiana choosing UA as of late. Being able to spend time with those other players while he was on campus in Tucson over the weekend helped make his decision an easier one Monday night.

“What really stood out is that I knew a lot of their players were from down here,” he said. “And I got to learn a lot from them and see how it was at Arizona. They gave me confirmation that it was a good situation. I just had to make sure that the education was there.”

Led by Rodriguez UA had five coaches on the visit with Wallace on Monday night and while it was something the new Arizona commit was happy to see it didn’t shape his decision.

“It made a statement somewhat,” he said. “But it didn’t really matter to me that all of them came. It was about getting my questions answered and seeing if that was where I wanted to be.”

Wallace is commitment No. 14 for the Wildcats as UA looks to finish out the class with a strong group in 2016.
