Three-star quarterback commits to Arizona

Arizona continued its recruiting momentum Thursday when Rich Rodriguez's program added the 15th commit to its 2013 class with Pasadena, Calif., quarterback Brandon Cox.

The three-star prospect said it came down to Oregon and UA, and, after taking a trip to Eugene, Cox felt the fit was right in Tucson.
"Going into everything Arizona and Oregon were the two frontrunners," he said. "This past week I've been up in Oregon at their camp and I saw everything they had to offer to compare it to what I saw at Arizona. And Arizona had that home feel to it, and I didn't get that same feeling in Oregon.
"So that kind of just sealed the deal. So right now I'm sitting in the airport waiting to go back home to [Los Angeles] from Oregon and Arizona is the place for me."
The southpaw said that UA being the first program to offer very early on in his recruitment was a big part of his final decision.
"They kind of showed the interest in my skills that maybe others didn't see early," Cox said. "So they saw early that I had the skills to do something early at their school. At first I liked them - especially with Rich Rodriguez going there - I always thought it could be the place for me.
"I didn't know how much of that was true, but now just to make it official it's crazy."
The signal caller joins four-star Anu Solomon and two-star recruit Thomas Woodson as possible quarterback options for the Wildcats in 2013. Despite the 'Cats taking all three recruits, Cox said that didn't have a huge effect on his decision and he welcomes the competition.
"Anywhere you go there's going to be competition," he said. "Every place you go there's going to be somebody playing ahead of you or somebody going in at the same time. I think it will be better for me to go in with us not having prior experience as far as collegiate playing time.
"So it's kind of a fair situation and we're going to go in there and compete our butt's off. And I'm just looking forward to an opportunity."
Cox chose the Wildcats over offers from Iowa State, Maryland, New Mexico State and Utah State.
