Carey picks up consensus All-American tag

Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey can now add consensus All-American to the front of his name.
The sophomore was named an Associated Press first-team selection Tuesday, marking his third major honor in addition to similar nods from The Sporting News and Walter Camp. The Football Writers' Association of America will release its list Friday and there is little doubt Carey will be able to add a fourth honor to his decorated season.

Carey, the 11th consensus All-American in program history, has turned in a record-setting year and could add the tag nation's leading rusher to his list of honors. The Tucson native will take his 1,757 rushing yards and nation-best 146.4 yards per game into Saturday's Gildan New Mexico Bowl showdown against Nevada and star running back Stefphon Jefferson, the nation's No. 2 rusher (141.9).
"We knew [Carey] was a good player, but it takes a combination of things," UA head coach Rich Rodriguez said. "Not just the linemen up front but perimeter blocking, quarterback making the right reads. Ka'Deem has made the most of them.
"He has squeezed out whatever, how many yards he's got - I don't even know what he''s got. He has earned it for sure."
Carey is Arizona's first offensive player to earn the distinction.
