Carey, Fischer land on watch lists

Ka'Deem Carey and Jake Fischer represented Arizona on a pair of national awards watch lists on Monday.
Carey, the Wildcats' star running back who led the nation in rushing last season, was one of 76 players named to the Maxwell Award watch list for the nation's top player. The Athlon Sports first-team preseason All-American collected 1,929 yards on the ground in 2012, obliterating the school record by more than 300 yards.

Carey was one of 15 players from the Pac-12 Conference and one of 28 running backs on the list.
Meanwhile, Fischer was among the 75 players on the watch list for the Bednarik Award, given to the nation's top defensive player. The senior racked up a team-leading 119 tackles at middle linebacker in 2012, his first year at the position after playing on the outside previously.
Fischer was one of 13 players in the Pac-12 on the list.
Semifinalists for both awards will be announced Oct. 29 and three finalists will be chosen Nov. 18. The winners will be announced Dec. 12, as part of ESPNU's College Football Awards show.
