For three-star defensive lineman Jake Burton the last trip in his recruitment mattered. Arizona picked up a commitment from the El Cajon (Calif.) Granite Hills standout Tuesday after he visited Tucson last week.
"The coaches there and then Arizona is definitely up and coming," Burton told GOAZCATS.com about what went into his commitment. "They beat USC and Oregon and they won the Pac-12 South last year. As far as the defensive line I'm a need for them and most of their linemen are upperclassmen.
"Then it was just the overall feel for it too."
The 6-foot-6 prospect had been planning that trip to Arizona ever since the Wildcats first became involved over the spring and it was eventually that trip that sent UA over the top.
"Just to kind of see if first hand," he said. "I was able to see what they're all about. As far as walking around the campus and seeing all the students and the social life that was big."
Burton could play a variety of positions at Arizona and that versatility is something he can see working well now that he will be going to play for Rich Rodriguez and the Wildcats.
"Well I sat down with the d-line coach (Bill Kirelawich) and he went over with me where I fit in," he said. "As far as they're concerned I fit in perfectly with their defense."
The big defensive lineman is Arizona's 15th commitment in the class and the seventh since Saturday as the Wildcats added five on their big visit day and added one more Monday before Burton pulled the trigger Tuesday.
The three-star recruit also joins a growing list of defensive line recruits in the Wildcats' class with four of the 15 current pledges all playing along the defensive line including four-star prospect Josh Allen.
