Adams' commitment adds more Texas flavor to Arizona's class

Arizona has been looking to add taller receivers to its team in the last couple recruiting cycles and it has also been looking to improve its footprint in Texas. The program's newest commitment helped accomplish both of those things as three-star wideout Tre Adams announced his pledge to the Wildcats Wednesday evening picking the Pac-12 school over offers from Boise State, BYU, Illinois, Iowa State and others including Ivy League schools such as Brown and Dartmouth.

Adams visited Arizona back in September when the 'Cats hosted a team from his home state, the University of Houston, and it was an important trip to help determine his eventual landing spot.

"They are one of the schools at the top of my list and I have been keeping close contact with the coaches since the visit," the 6-foot-3 receiver said after the visit.

Eventually the new UA pledge took a trip to Ames to see Iowa State last week, but it was the Wildcats that earned his commitment Wednesday night.

Adams built his recruitment through the camp circuit first earning the MVP award for receivers at the Rivals 3-Stripe Camp in Dallas back in the spring before working out with various teams at satellite camps in Texas over the summer. He was spotted by Arizona coaches Theron Aych and Brian Knorr at a camp in Commerce, Texas and the relationship bloomed from there.

"Towards the end of June I went to the A&M Commerce Camp where coach (Theron) Aych and coach (Brian) Knorr were there coaching and they liked my speed and my route running," he said.

He eventually picked up an offer a few weeks later and tried to make it to campus for a trip prior to the dead period but it didn't work out. Adams then waited until the season to make a visit to UA and is now the latest piece to the team's 2018 class.

The 6-foot-3 prospect is now the 12th prospect to commit to UA for 2018 and he is the sixth player on offense. Adams finished his junior season with 51 catches for 717 yards and eight touchdowns. This year Wakeland is undefeated and Adams has been a big part of the offense.

Both of Adams' parents played sports at Washington State in the 90s with his dad playing receiver for the Cougars and his mom playing basketball and eventually having a short professional career. He also lived in Arizona for a time and had grandparents living in Tucson.
