OSU on top of initial 2010 team rankings

MORE: Class of 2010 Rivals150 | 2009 Team Rankings | 2008 Team Rankings

Now that the early signing period has passed for the 2009 class, it is time to turn our attention to the 2010 class with the inaugural team recruiting rankings.

And a familiar name in the recruiting world is at the top of the list. Ohio State already has a five-man 2010 class that rivals the Buckeyes' 2006 class led by Greg Oden, Mike Conley and Daequan Cook.

Ohio State is not the only Big Ten school off to a great start with its 2010 recruiting. Four teams from the Big Ten are ranked in the top 10. The ACC and Big East are represented by two schools each, and the Big 12 and SEC each have one team.

As more 2010 commitments roll in, Rivals.com will periodically update and expand this list. It will take a lot of work, however, for any team to overtake Ohio State.

2010 Team Rankings
1. Ohio State
2009 commits (National rank)
PF Jared Sullinger (3)
PF Deshaun Thomas (8)
SG Jordan Sibert (18)
SG Lenzelle Smith Jr. (97)
Ohio State is in familiar territory in 2010. The Buckeyes continue to prove themselves as one of the best programs for finding talent early and locking up prospects before their junior year. This five-man class, which all hails from Big Ten country, has a little bit of everything. Sullinger continues the trend of franchise big men to commit to coach Thad Matta, while Thomas and Sibert, who are five-star prospects like Sullinger, are stars in waiting, too. Smith is one of the most unique players in the nation and a tremendous passer.
2. Texas
2009 commits (National rank)
PF Tristan Thompson (5)
SG Daniel Bejarano (16)
The Longhorns are at it again. After landing two five-star prospects in 2009, coach Rick Barnes and his staff have started out very strong in 2010 with another double dose of top talent. Thompson, a 6-foot-8 forward from national powerhouse Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep, continues the line of long and versatile big men to pick the Longhorns. Bejarano, a 6-5 scorer from Arizona, is one of the best in the junior class at putting the ball in the hole from deep.
3. Illinois
2009 commits (National rank)
SF Jereme Richmond (19)
SG Crandall Head (23)
C Meyers Leonard (69)
The in-state recruiting plan continues for Illinois. Richmond and Head, both five-star prospects, are two of the Chicago area's best young prospects. Richmond has been committed to the program since his freshman year and has consistently been one of the best at his position nationally. Head, the younger brother of former Illini star Luther Head, is a big-time athlete. Leonard, a 6-9 forward, fits the mold of big man that Illinois has recruited in the Bruce Weber era.
4. Louisville
2009 commits (National rank)
PF Jeremy Tyler (4)
SF Justin Martin (38)
PF Josh Langford
Coach Rick Pitino could be the answer for Tyler, one of the most talented players in the country. The 6-8 big man from San Diego could thrive under the leadership of Pitino. That is bad news for the Big East. Martin is one of the best wings in the nation, and Langford is an undersized but athletic hustler from the Deep South. All three players should help right away.
5. Duke
2009 commits (National rank)
PF Joshua Hairston (14)
SG Andre Dawkins (34)
PG Tyler Thornton (54)
Hairston and Thornton shined together with the D.C. Assault AAU program over the past three summers and have collected numerous trophies along the way. The duo works very well together. Hairston is a skilled big man and similar to other players Duke has signed at the position. Thornton is a winner, pure and simple, and he embodies the mentality of Duke guards. Dawkins is a smooth-shooting guard from Virginia and will be the perimeter threat of the future.
6. Tennessee
2009 commits (National rank)
PG Josh Selby (7)
SG Jordan McRae (28)
PG Aaron Craft
Success is breading recruiting success for Tennessee as coach Bruce Pearl builds up his backcourt with his 2010 recruiting class. Selby, a top 10 prospect, is an electric scorer as a combo guard, and McRae, a highly ranked four-star, is a lethal scorer from the wing. Craft, who runs with the explosive All Ohio Red travel team, is known for his hard-nosed play and defensive abilities.
7. North Carolina
2009 commits (National rank)
SG Reggie Bullock (12)
PG Kendall Marshall (32)
Coach Roy Williams is off to a great start with his 2010 class following up on his No. 1 ranked 2009 class. A North Carolina native, Bullock is a five-star shooting guard with size and a load of upside. Marshall is a polished point guard who has a natural feel for the position and has been playing like a college-ready player for the past couple of years.
8. Syracuse
2009 commits (National rank)
SG Dion Waiters (20)
PF C.J. Fair (45)
SF Baye Moussa Kieta
A physical five-star shooting guard, Waiters highlights this balanced recruiting class set to play for coach Jim Boeheim. Fair, a four-star combo forward, has a multidimensional game that is effective in the paint as well as facing the basket. Kieta, a Sudanese center, is a defensive force who can protect the rim.
9. Purdue
2009 commits (National rank)
SG Anthony Johnson (49)
C Travis Carroll (66)
PG Terone Johnson (105)
Coach Matt Painter brought a top 10 recruiting class to Purdue in 2007, and he is on his way to replicating that feet with his 2010 class. Anthony Johnson is smooth shooting guard with a penchant for scoring the basketball, while fellow four-star prospect Carroll is a heady, skilled post player with a dose of athleticism. The other Johnson in the backcourt, Terone, is a solid combo guard.
10. Wisconsin
2009 commits (National rank)
C Evan Anderson (37)
SG Vander Blue (39)
Coach Bo Ryan has secured another a commitment from a skilled big man in Anderson, who should fit in well with Wisconsin's style of play. A fellow four-star prospect, Blue is a hard-nosed player with a well-rounded game as a combo guard.
