Arizona football launches fan campaign
Texas A&M has its 12th man. Clemson plays in a stadium affectionately known as "Death Valley." Florida's home-field is simply known as "The Swamp."
Arizona, which has watched its attendance decrease each of the last three seasons, is asking its fans to rally together and "Be The One."
The Wildcats launched a social media campaign Wednesday, complete with a video in which Rich Rodriguez notes the program's back-to-back bowl victories as a foundation. Now, with "11 players on the field, working together as one," the third-year head coach says in the 43-second clip, "we need you to take that next step."
In his weekly Wildcat Wednesday newsletter, athletic director Greg Byrne formally announced the promotion and a giveaway to entice fans to attend games.
"Fans are a huge part of the equation and we need you to 'Be The One' if we're going to reach the goals we know Arizona football can achieve," Byrne wrote.
Over the next several weeks, Arizona will select 100 random winners who change their Facebook and Twitter profiles to the promotion's logo and either comment "#BeThe1" to this Facebook post or retweet this Twitter post. The swag giveaway was not disclosed.
Arizona's attendance has dropped from 55,408 per home game in 2010 to 47,619 on average this past season. The 2013 average ranked eighth in the Pac-12 Conference.
