Official: Ashley out for the season
Sophomore forward Brandon Ashley will miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury, Arizona announced Sunday night.
Ashley, who averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds, helped the Wildcats start the season 21-0 before leaving Saturday's 60-58 loss at California early in the first half.
"Last night, early in our Cal game, Brandon Ashley suffered a foot injury that will end his season," UA head coach Sean Miller said in a release. "While we're all disappointed, we are also aware that Brandon needs our support and positive energy surrounding him. Someone once told me, the hottest heat forges the strongest steel. This adversity will ultimately make Brandon and our team stronger moving forward."
Just 2:08 into the contest, the 6-8 forward landed awkwardly on a rebound attempt and had to be helped off the floor. At halftime, he returned to the team bench in a walking boot.
After the game, Miller was hopeful Ashley's injury was not season-ending but feared that his foot was broken.
The release did not specify whether the foot was broken.
Ashley shot 52.2 percent from the field - including 37.9 percent from the 3-point line - and also helped make UA the top offensive rebounding team in the Pac-12 Conference.
