Arizona adds the "Red Rifle" to its 2017 class

He finished his senior season at Montezuma (Ga.) Macon County with the most touchdown passes by any player in his state ending the year with 56. So the "Red Rifle" nickname is fitting for 2017 quarterback K'Hari Lane. Still with nearly 60 touchdown passes to go along with 3,470 passing yards and just two interceptions the two-star recruit didn't see one FBS offer come his way as National Signing Day came and went without any decision.

He did hold numerous FCS and junior college options if he decided to ultimately take that route, which he could have done earlier this month when many of his peers were signing with various schools. Rather, Lane waited and when the need for another quarterback option opened up for Arizona the meeting of the two sides made almost too much sense.

At 6-feet and over 220 pounds did most of his damage with his arm, but with two other quarterbacks who can run the ball well the Wildcats not only needed more competition but another strong arm in the group heading into the summer to as Rhett Rodriguez also joins the quarterback unit.

That led to a visit for Lane and his mother out to Tucson over the weekend and although he came to UA for the trip without an offer he left with an offer and as Arizona's newest commit. Since he didn't decide to sign earlier this month he will do so when he returns home this week and is able to get a National Letter of Intent from UA in his hands to end up as the 24th member of the program's 2017 class.

"Great day to be a Wildcat," Lane had to say about his decision to pick Arizona.

As a member of the 2017 class the Georgia-based standout will be on campus with UA this summer when he will make the permanent move across the country and begin his college career.

Lane will join a group this summer that already includes Brandon Dawkins, Khalil Tate, Rodriguez and walk-on players Gunther Johnson and Zach Werlinger.
