Patrick Onwuasor was charged with four felonies, including the possession of a narcotic drug for sale, according to a release Tuesday from the City of Tucson.
Less than a half-hour later, the Arizona safety was dismissed from the team in a release from head coach Rich Rodriguez.
"We are aware of the situation with Patrick Onwuasor. He has been removed from the program," Rodriguez said.
Onwuasor, who was arraigned Monday, also was charged with possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony drug offense and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
The charges were the result of an investigation into an incident on April 29. According to the release, the Tucson police department was notified of a home invasion in the 2500 block of West Anklam Rd., at approximately 2 a.m. After additional information was provided by the Beverly Hills police in California during a separate incident in their jurisdiction, the case was revived after it was discovered that the two incidents were directly linked.
Onwuasor, an Inglewood, Calif., native, was then charged after police executed a search warrant at his apartment, the release said.
Onwuasor was expected to compete for a contributing role in the secondary after appearing in 12 games - two starts - and recording 36 tackles last season.
