CAVE CREEK, Ariz. - Whether it's Kameron Rooks or Trey Mason from the 2013 class or others, many former Arizona Wildcats' children have followed in their fathers' footsteps with their own hopes of becoming college basketball players.
One of the younger prospects now starting to make a name for himself is Michael Bibby Jr., at Phoenix (Ariz.) Shadow Mountain. The 5-foot-10 point guard and his squad played an exciting game against Cave Creek (Ariz.) Cactus Shadows on Friday night and GOAZCATS.com was in attendance.
Bibby Jr. helped his Shadow Mountain squad knock of Cactus Shadows with three clutch free throws at the end of the game to put the contest out of reach. The Matadors ended up taking the win by a score of 62-58.
Shadow Mountain moved to 20-3 on the year with the victory while Cactus Shadows dropped to 15-8.
The contest was certainly a battle throughout for both teams as the game had a few key runs that kept both teams close for a majority of the game. Cactus Shadows made a late run to bring the game to within one point, but that's when Bibby Jr. knocked down two key free throws to push the Matadors' lead to three points.
After getting fouled with just a few seconds left Bibby Jr. went made one of his two free-throw attempts to push the lead to four points and the game ended shortly after when a final shot came up short for Cactus Shadows.
Bibby Jr. was the catalyst for Shadow Mountain as the freshman point guard finished with 19 points in the win. Where the young prospect really made his impact was from beyond the arc as he connected on multiple 3-pointers. Many of those shots from deep also came at crucial points in the game.
The Cactus Shadows charge late in the game was led by senior CJ Davis who finished the game with 21 points for the Falcons. Davis knocked down four 3-pointers in the contest with a few of those coming late in the game when Cactus Shadows put together a nice comeback attempt.
Bibby was also helped out by fellow freshmen JJ Rhymes and Carols Johnson who contributed in the win as well.
Next up for Shadow Mountain is Phoenix (Ariz.) South Mountain on the road next Tuesday at 7 p.m. MST. Cactus Shadows has Phoenix (Ariz.) Thunderbird next Tuesday.
