This is the second weekend in a row when college coaches will be scattered throughout the country in search of their future recruiting classes. Once again the Nike EYBL will be a popular destination for many of the country's top programs as the league makes its second stop this week in Hampton, Va., at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.
And once again the event will feature plenty of Arizona recruits, so members of the Wildcats staff are sure to make an appearance.
Through one stop six teams made it out a perfect 4-0 including three in the loaded Division D, a division that features quite a few Wildcat targets. Albany City Rocks (New York), Each 1 Teach 1 (Florida), California Supreme, CIA Bounce (Canada), Oakland Soldiers (California) and Houston Hoops (Texas) all made it through the first stop with unblemished records.
Houston Hoops: The talented squad from Houston Hoops heads into the second stop this weekend as the fourth-best scoring team in the entire field of 40 teams. Houston Hoops is averaging 70.8 points through their first four wins. Keith Frazier (2013), Brian Bridgewater (2013) and Justise Winslow (2014) are all UA recruits who are expected to be in action this weekend with Houston Hoops.
Houston Hoops opens the EYBL's second stop with a 6 p.m. PT game against Athlete First (Oklahoma).
California Supreme: The squad coached by former Wildcat Miles Simon did a great job on both ends of floor last week and it has resulted in a nice balance. Cal Supreme is eighth in scoring (68.8 ppg) and at the top when it comes to defense (45.5 ppg) through the EYBL's first four games.
Last week Simon talked to GOAZCATS.com last weekend about 2014 target Parker Jackson-Cartwright's ability to limit his mistakes while still keeping his assists numbers high. The Wildcats' top point guard target for 2014 finished the first weekend with 5.8 assists per game, which puts him at the top of that category.
He also finished the weekend in sixth with 2.3 steals per contest. Jackson-Cartwright's teammate - and fellow UA target - Marcus Lee continues to see his recruitment expand into new conferences and new programs. Duke extended an offer to the talented big-man last week and he has performed well this spring.
Simon noted his ability to block shots and run the floor well as key contributors to the team's quick start.
Cal Supreme opens the event Friday at 3 p.m. PT with the Metro Hawks (New York).
Oakland Soldiers: The Oakland Soldiers are team that most UA fans have already become familiar with because of various recruits in the past. This season's team once again features a loaded roster, and Soldiers were another team to escape Minnesota with four wins.
The Soldiers finished the first stop sixth overall in scoring offense with 69.5 points per game. Wildcat recruit and the Soldiers top player, Aaron Gordon, will miss some time with a toe injury so his team will have to be without him for a bit. However, the Soldiers still have a solid roster without the five-star prospect.
Jabari Bird (2013), Tyree Robinson (2013), Tyrell Robinson (2013), Stanley Johnson (2014) and Shaqquan Aaron (2014) are all Wildcat targets expected to suit up for the Soldiers this weekend.
The Soliders open up the weekend by taking on another of the undefeated teams in Albany City Rocks (New York) at 4:30 p.m. PT.
Other UA targets: While the teams above have multiple UA targets, there are still a number of other Wildcat recruits on various other teams taking part in the EYBL this weekend.
2014 center prospect Jahlil Okafor from Chicago (Ill.) Whitney Young had an up-and-down four games last weekend, but he came back nicely to end the event for Mac Irvin Fire. Okafor's Whitney Young teammate 2014 wing prospect Paul White also had a somewhat rocky weekend, but he did have a couple of games where he showed how much of an impact player he can be.
He heads into the second weekend averaging eight points and just over three rebounds for Meanstreets.
This weekend's other big event will be the Real Deal in the Rock in Arkansas, which will feature teams like Dream Vision (Stephen Domingo and Isaac Hamilton) and the various Compton Magic teams (Paul Watson and Jaron Hopkins).
